KRAIBURG CowCross: Self-draining rubber flooring for drier crossing passages
Elevated crossing passages are often constructed with a level concrete surface in many dairy barns. They are generally cleaned manually and often only during milking, around twice a day. Liquids can accumulate there until the next cleaning. The result: persistent wetness and soiling, an increased risk of slipping and greater stress on the hooves.
With the new CowCross, KRAIBURG offers a solution for targeted drainage in these hygiene-sensitive areas. The self-draining rubber flooring has an integrated slope of 3 %. This directs liquids to the adjacent walking alleys quickly and effectively, where they can be collected by scrapers or manure removal robots during the regular cleaning interval. This keeps crossing areas drier and safer between cleaning cycles.

For existing barns and new construction
CowCross is designed both for retrofitting existing level crossing passages and for use in new barn construction. The required slope is already integrated into the mats and does not need to be created through complex concrete work. This saves labor during installation while providing a practical solution for different barn concepts.
The flexible system consists of two wedge-shaped mats and one roof-shaped mat in the center, as well as a building protection mat and a recycled plastic board for height adjustment. It can be used to cover crossing passages up to 5.20 m wide. The new flooring is 15 mm high at the edge and rises to 92 mm in the center of the crossing passage. Its elastic, hoof-friendly walking surface provides comfortable walking and supports slip resistance.
Less standing liquid and reduced contact with wet, soiled areas help relieve stress on the hooves and support hoof health. The combination of defined drainage and elastic flooring also improves animal safety when crossing these areas.

Faster drainage of liquids as a contribution to emission reduction
The rapid drainage of urine and water from drinking troughs supports faster separation of feces and urine on crossing areas. This can reduce ammonia formation. CowCross therefore combines animal comfort, barn hygiene and an environmentally relevant approach - particularly in areas that have previously often been cleaned only at longer intervals.
