Recommendations for the calving pen

Nature:

a cow separates herself from the herd for calving → single calving pens make sense

Advantages:

• can be well monitored
• good hygiene management
• undisturbed obstetrics

BUT: avoid the stress from changing housing!

Pen should be beside the dry cow section
→ contact to the accustomed herd members

Requirements on the calving pen:

• size: minimum 4 x 4 m
• sufficiently large sized waterer
• easy access to feed
• clean and dry
• slip-resistant and soft floor
  → should be easy and fast to clean
